Before weaving, artisans manually encode every motif, color gradient and texture onto cords in a binary-like system — hailed as the world’s earliest form of programming. Weaving traditional Shu Brocade demands seamless coordination between two skilled artisans: one lifts the warp threads to form patterns, while the other weaves the weft threads. Precise rhythm and flawless finishing hinge entirely on flawless teamwork.
